Tutorial

This tutorial will guide you through the set up process of Discount Rocket. We'll show you how to install the app on your store, activate a subscription, set up compatible discounts, sync your data with the app, and then finally, install and configure the app blocks on your theme.

Installation

Open the Discount Rocket listing page on the Shopify App Store and click on "Install" to start the installation process.

Accept the app data access request to install the app on your store.

Activate subscription

Discount Booster is a paid subscription application, free to use on a 14-day trial. Activate the subscription when prompted to do so. Shopify will delay the billing of the app for 14 days, which gives you time to try it out.

Partner Friendly for development stores

If you use the app on development store, you won't need to activate any subscription plans and can test the app as long as the store remains a development store.

Set up discounts

Discount Rocket uses the discounts that are native to Shopify and does not use any custom app discounts. These discounts that are set up in your store's Shopify Admin, are then promoted by Discount Booster on your online store by integrating as a component into your Online Store theme in the form of an app block.

To manage the discounts in your Shopify Admin, click on the "Discounts" item on the menu.

The image below shows an example of the type of discounts that are promoted by Discount Rocket. Their method should be "Automatic" and the type should be "Amount off order".

Create some automatic order discounts before moving on to the next step. Discount Booster will show the number of compatible discounts in the Dashboard after the data has been synchronised.

Navigate to the app's Dashboard, and don't forget to pin the application for easier navigation.

Sync data

Discount Rocket needs up to date information in order to promote the discounts correctly to your customers. This information is kept up to date by synchronising the data on your online store with the Discount Rocket app.

The following scenarios will require syncing the data:

• Installing or reinstalling the app
• Adding new discounts or updating existing discounts
• Adding new products or updating existing products
• Adding new collections or updating existing collections

The following scenarios will keep the data in sync automatically:

• Deleting existing discounts
• Deleting existing products
• Deleting existing collections

The Dashboard of Discount Booster shows if data is in sync, or if it needs to be synced.

Data out of sync

Click on sync now to sync the data. Syncing usually takes a few minutes to complete. It is advised when making changes on discounts, products and collections, to complete all the required changes and then run the sync.

App blocks page

Navigate to the app blocks page in the menu.

The app blocks page will assist you in installing the app block into one of your themes. An app block is a custom component that can be installed on any compatible Online Store theme, allowing quick and simple integration.

Select the theme you would like to install the app block on, and click on "Get installation instructions". A list will be generated of all the compatible areas where the app block can be installed. The most popular is to install it in the header section of the index page, or on the main area of the product. Click the option you prefer, and a link will be opened that will install that block onto the selected section of the selected theme.

Configure app block on online shop

You don't need to follow the installation instructions on the app blocks page, you can also install the app block directly from the Online Store theme editor.

In the admin menu open the page under "Online store" >> "Themes", and then click "Customize" on the current theme to open the theme editor.

Click "Add section" where you want the component to be placed and select "Apps" and then "Discount goal" component of Discount Rocket.

The component should render some text, like below.

You can edit the component settings to match the appearance that you desire. When you are done, click "Save" on the theme editor to save the changes.

Test

Now that the component has been installed, exit the theme editor, hover over the "Online store" menu item until the icon of an eye appears, click on that icon to view your online store.

The component that you have installed should now show the customer what the discount goal is. Add and remove some items from your cart to see how the component behaves and how the prompts to the user change as the items in their cart changes.
